We know it can be annoying when your Viking refrigerator isn’t cooling properly. Here is an easy guide to help you find and fix common cooling problems.
Common Problems and How to Fix Them
Problem 1: Freezer Works, Fridge Doesn’t
Solution: The issue could be with the thermistor (temperature sensor), temperature control thermostat, or evaporator fan (which circulates cold air). Inspect each component. Replace the parts if they malfunction.
Problem 2: Both Sections Are Warm
Solution: The problem could be the compressor start relay, control board, compressor, or condenser fan. Test and replace these parts if necessary, ensuring proper functionality.
Problem 3: Dirty Condenser Coils
- Solution: It makes cooling less efficient. To clean them, unplug the device. Find the coils (check your manual), usually behind or below the unit. Remove any covers. Use a vacuum and coil brush. Put the covers back, plug the device in, and move it back in place.
Problem 4: Faulty Thermistor
- Solution: The thermistor measures temperature. If it’s broken, the appliance won’t cool right. Test it with a multimeter. If it’s bad, replace it to keep the device cool.
Problem 5: Malfunctioning Evaporator Fan
- Solution: It moves cold air in the fridge. If it’s not working, the appliance may not stay cold. Check if the part turns easily and isn’t noisy. If it’s broken, a replacement is needed.
Additional Troubleshooting Tips
- Adjust the Temperature Setting: Lower the temperature by pressing the DOWN button on the control panel. Wait 30 minutes to see if it gets better.
- Check the Door Seal: Ensure it closes tightly. Clean the seal and remove any food blocking it.
- Verify the Level: Ensure the device is fine. Adjust the feet if needed, so the door seals well.
- Limit Door Openings: It often can warm up the fridge. Keep it closed as much as possible.
- Allow Time for Warm Food: Adding warm food can temporarily warm the fridge. Let food cool before putting it inside.
How to Reset It

- Solution: Press the “Alarm Off” button or, unplug the device for a few minutes and then plug it back in. It might take up to 24 hours to cool down.
